Nothing about Scott Gill's life is most likely normal
Watching some extensive filming over the last couple of weeks, a few things have just struck me. Firstly, shoots are short - perhaps a few seconds, delivering a few words. Secondly, there are multiple takes, maybe 5, or 20, often from several different angles. Each time the camera 'cuts' on TV, we're looking at a new scene - probably filmed hours, or days from the last, and in reality is disconnected from the last.
Oddly, for me - the actors don't actually stay in character during takes. JB, for example is only Captain Jack when, for perhaps 5 seconds he delivers his words. Immediately afterwards, he's camply dancing, playing around or being very much JB.
When we see ambulances driving off screen at speed, in reality, they speed off - for perhaps 10 meters, then they stop. The smooth continuation seen on TV is a collection of similar, very short takes, which when edited, look continuous & seamless.
Everything you see on your TV show is rehearsed & carefully choreographed. Nothing at all you see is random. The odd passer by walks on on-cue, the passing, cocky-leggy dog has passed by 100 times until the correct action is filmed, the clothes on the washing line were hung out by set dressers.
Finally - what you see on screen is all the actors actually do. If Gwen & Rhys are seen lifting a coffee cup,for example. then the scene cuts, Eve & Rhys then put the cup down - they don't actually carry on for a few seconds and drink the coffee. Months of preparation, thousands of scenes, thousands of takes, the magic of special effects. the skill of the editor turn short, disconnected snippets into smooth, real-looking action. It's really strange seeing it as it really is!
